Celebrating International Women’s Day with the Women of Matr Boomie

As a brand that is proud to celebrate and uplift women all throughout the year, we felt it was important to sync with our female team members to have a conversation about gender inclusivity, the women who have inspired them the most and the power of lifting women up. Meet the women that make up our team and hear how they choose to inspire and celebrate this International Women’s Day.



Meet Ruchi, Co-Founder at Matr Boomie

What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
That we can balance duality. I like that we can be both sensitive and strong at the same time and have the power to both perceive and act effectively.
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
It's extremely important to lift each other up. As women, we understand better the challenges we face physically, socially, emotionally. Being each other's advocate and lifting each other creates a stronger, successful and fun team.
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
I want to remind them to recognize their power. We, women are the creators, the love that holds societies together, the strength that keeps the family going, and the conviction to get through tough times. There is absolutely nothing that we cannot achieve that we set our mind on. Give yourself permission to dream big and paint your rainbow!
 


Meet Leonie, our Assistant Product Designer

 
What woman inspires you and why?
My mom was a big inspiration to me. It was discovered that she had a serious heart condition when she was just a child, and it would continue to impact her health for the rest of her life. When we moved to the United States, she had to abandon her career as a general practitioner to essentially start over from scratch in a new country. Despite this, she was always a positive and resilient presence. She never apologized for the things she was passionate about, and was not afraid to speak up for herself or those she cared about. Despite her passing, her strong spirit continues to motivate and inspire me to this day.
What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
My favorite thing about being a woman is the strong relationships we can develop with one another. Our capacity to love and care for one another, even if they're a complete stranger, is absolutely incredible. 
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
It may be hard to speak up for yourself in the moment, but it's absolutely worth it in the end. While this easily applies to conversations about pay and treatment in the workplace, "speaking up' can also apply to the choices you make. Speak up for yourself by finding your passion and following it to a career you genuinely enjoy.


Meet Melissa, our Sales Data Specialist 

What woman inspires you and why?
My best friend inspires me to always be the best version of myself and to stand up for what is good and right, even when it is difficult. She is very supportive of everything I do and is the epitome of what it means to be a woman in this era. She is beyond loving and caring and an advocate for women’s rights, gender equality, and the flourishing of all women. I love her so much.
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
I think it is extremely important for women to lift each other up, especially in this day and age. The world can be very cruel and daunting especially to women. Because of that, it’s crucial that we as women encourage, care, and love each other the best we can every day. It may not always be easy, but it’s what’s best for all women (including myself) to rise above jealousy, envy, anger, etc. and to be there for each other. Otherwise women cannot and will not thrive or be seen and that’s what is important. 
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
It may be difficult because this world is broken in many ways, but that does not mean you shouldn’t strive to be whoever you want to be in your career. You can get to that place by being respectful, kind, patient, empathetic, and hard working to others and more importantly to yourself. Believe you can achieve what you desire not just for yourself, but also for young women who are seeking opportunities to grow and prosper.


Meet Ana, our Senior Graphic Designer 

What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
My favorite thing about being a woman is the ability to overcome obstacles and prove to myself the strength I embody. As women, we face specific challenges and being able to come out on top despite all of that is incredibly empowering. Basically having the power to turn struggle into ultimate strength.
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
It is incredibly crucial and such an empowering, beautiful way to unite. When I am lifted up by another woman, whether that is a compliment, encouragement, feedback or even just a quick check in, it really impacts me. The opinion/view from another strong woman really holds a ton of value. I think it is our duty to be strong, vulnerable, honest and open and to share all those things with our community of women so we can all grow together.
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
I'd say not to sell yourself short. You are capable of anything. You just need to visualize it, ask yourself why you want it and go for it. Anything is possible. Our gender struggles are not a hindrance, they are a power.  


Meet Amanda, our Sales Lead 

 

What woman inspires you and why?
My aunt, congresswoman, Sylvia Garcia is such an inspiration to me. She has dedicated her entire life to fighting for justice and what she believes in. She has built her career from the ground up and I am proud of the work that she continues to do. 
 
What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
Pregnancy and the whole child birthing experience has to be one of my favorite things about being a woman. The ability to nourish, grow and carry a life inside of you and then deliver the sweetest little baby is an experience I am grateful I could experience. 
 
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
You can do absolutely anything your heart desires! Do not let society tell you what you "should be". Be true to yourself and you will thrive! 


Meet Nisha, our Digital Marketing Associate

What woman inspires you and why?
There are so many women that inspire me daily from just my day-to-day interactions with family, friends, entrepreneurs, and activists. I respect any woman that inspires hope in others - regardless of their platform or social standing.
 
What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
To be honest, I love fashion and beautiful lifestyle products and that these things can be a force for change in the world. I think having choices, practicing self-care and having the desire to help others through promoting and buying things that make me feel and look good is a wonderful thing about being a woman.

On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
Always remain true to yourself! Don't let outward appearances, social status, money, relationships, gender/cultural norms define who you are. Go for your dreams and also be mindful that although sometimes your efforts towards your dreams may seem futile just continue working on yourself and new paths will surely open up. This quote is one from Maya Angelou and it always inspires me, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel". 


Meet Sarah, our Design Director

What woman inspires you and why?
My sister, Laura Eastep. She is a brilliant doctor and advocate for women's issues, and is also a great decorator and an avid dog rescuer. Joonhee Kim, who is the most talented designer I've ever met, and who I am very lucky to have been mentored by when I was working in NYC. And I am constantly inspired by our women partners in India, who use their skills as artisans to provide for themselves and their families.
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
It's important for women to lift each other up, but I think it is really just important for all of us to use whatever privilege we have to lift up others, and to help create space for those who might not traditionally have it-- especially in the workplace.
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
Your voice and your unique perspective is incredibly important.

What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
We can do it all and we can have it all. There is nothing that a woman can’t do better than a man, our strength is so powerful. Women can do anything from bringing life into this world to running their own business. Lastly, there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who is confident in herself and is knowing in her strength and uses that as a way to make our world a better place. 
 
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
We are raised to be competitors and in reality we can support one another and still win. As hard as it is for us to do sometimes - it's not fair to compare yourself to others in their journey so when you advocate for other women and you celebrate their successes, you break that cycle and you make it more acceptable for women to continue to raise the bar and shatter glass ceilings. The future for women becomes brighter when we lift each other up. 
 
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
Make ambition your best friend. There is nothing that you cannot do, so set those goals very high and aim for them. Don’t be afraid of rejection or failure,  because that’s the key to helping you grow and making you stronger than you could ever imagine.

What woman inspires you and why?
It is so hard for me to choose just one woman who inspires me. I am completely surrounded by incredible women who inspire me daily through choosing to live in their authenticity, breaking out of societal norms, and are focused on creating the magical lives they desire. They show up for themselves each and every day and inspire me to do the same. 
  
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
It is vital for women to lift each other up! I personally have gone through a long journey of discovering this for myself and have even started hosting women circles. There is nothing like sisterhood and coming together to hold space for one another, cheer each other one, be a shoulder to cry on, celebrate our wins, and use our collective energy to empower one another. 
 
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
Tap into the question "what would you love?" and go after that. Your career and your passion can look so different than everyone else around you and that is okay. As long as you are being authentic to yourself, listening to your desires and going after it wholeheartedly, then you will find success - whatever success means for you!
